Accessing secure remote repositories

mark.gaywood
Hi

I'm currently trying to connect to a remote repository that requires a username and password, but can't see how to do this.

Any ideas?

Hi Mark,

the "Advanced Settings" tab for a remote repo contains fields for the username and password of the remote repo (http://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF/Advanced+Settings) -- is that what you're looking for?  We use those fields between our site and others, and they do the job for us.

Re: Accessing secure remote repositories

Hi Hugh,
Thanks for the reply. I assumed this was the proxy to "get out" of our firewall, this is not an issue. Rather the issue is getting into the remote repository of one of our suppliers which is passworded.

I am new to Artifactory and feel that I have missed a step here, so please feel free to give the 1010 tour.

Re: Accessing secure remote repositories

Hi Mark,

yeah, I thought that at first, too.  In fact the "Proxy" field in the "Advanced Settings" page is a drop-down for you to choose one of a number of proxies you've configured.  The Username & Password on that tab are for the remote repo server.

To configure a new proxy, go to "top-level Admin tab -> Configuration / Proxies page" and click "New".  Our proxy uses NTLM auth so doesn't need an explicit username and password; but if yours needs one, this is where to put it.

The Artifactory doc at http://www.jfrog.com/confluence/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=25067914 (or http://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF/) is fairly helpful, but I often find I have to read over several not-quite-connected pages to really understand what's going on.  It's better to think of it as a book to read through, rather than a set of self-contained help pages.
