Adding a new artifact in an existing build

dcoraboeuf
Hi,

We are using builds in Artifactory Pro in order to implement a promotion process (from dev, to qa, to prod, etc.). Along this promotion process, we want to add additional artifacts to the promoted build, typically some documentation and validation results.

Although I can of course upload those artifacts in Artifactory, I cannot find a way to update an existing build with a new artifact. Is there an undocumented way? I cannot find any REST API for this.

I feel this is an important feature when you want to work with staging and promotion processes.

Best regards,
Damien.

Hi Damien,

we've considered a couple of approaches for this where I work, though we ended up not doing either of them, so I can't say how well they work.

1. Upload an Ivy/POM files which has "placeholder" artifact entries: those artifacts don't exist until you promote the module and separately deploy them.

2. Don't modify the original module; instead, deploy a separate module which has the original as a dependency, to point out that they're related.  For example, com.yoyodyne:foo:1.2 and com.yoyodyne:foo-release:1.2, the latter having release notes, test results, etc.

Hope that helps,
