We have special chapters about working with Maven. Please also check our YouTube channel, it contains a lot of screencasts, including ones on Maven and Jenkins integration: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCE1F02326551FE9F

Artifactory backup backs up everything you need, you don't need to backup the database separately. The restore procedure will populate the database automatically.

Hope that helps.

Sure suppose if we want to choose backup in another server how can we do?
As in backups the target directory shows for the  server where we installed only but how remotely we can place the backups...vice versa restore also from remote..

Re: Artifactory

I honestly don't think you'd want to.

The nice thing about Artifactory's backup is that is can run pretty much
continuously without locking the system (or even having a particularly
noticeable impact on performance, at least from what we've seen.)

Quiescing the database and filesystem long enough to copy off our SQL
tables and /data directory would require extensive nightly downtime
(about six hours, last time I tried it. We have about a quarter million
artifacts and about 1.2TB of data.) That's simply not acceptable.

If you just want to back up to a remote file system for DR purposes,
mount an NFS export on the artifactory server and
redirect/symlink/whatever your [artifactory_home]/backups to that location.

 Is their any neccesity to use command line in artifactory like Subversion ?Can we perform any admin related task by command line also?  if so what all tasks we can perform?
And is their any need that we can integrate artifactory with any scripting languages for admin related tasks?
Any configurations that can be done in backend ?
For example like to change the location of storing log files?
Suppose we are have our logs folder is full after one year how can we archive all those things (ui or command line)
Why i asked all these questions is we are planning to implement artifactory in LINUX ENV?
Can we have any video how to install in linux and perform admin operations?
This will be really great if any provide any solutions as we are planning to take artifactory PRO.

Re: Artifactory

Most of the administrative tasks can be equally achieved through the UI or through Artifactory’s extensive REST API which can be used using tools like cURL and many of the scripting and programming languages.

With respect to backend configuration you will have to be more specific. As for changing the location of the logs, though this cannot be changed, you can always symlink a directory to your desired location.

By default Artifactory’s logs are rotated every 25MB. This means that when a log reaches a content of 25MB it will be closed and that Artifactory will start writing into a new file. You may archive these files with external tools of your choice.

You can learn more on installing Artifactory on Linux here and search for specific instructions on the public wiki according to the relevant topic/question.

Re: Artifactory

Wish you the same Eran

This was very helpful which clarified my doubts. As you said we can use curl tool but i installed Artifactory 3.4.1 which does contain anything in bin folder and start/stop scripts.
When i was browsing i found for command line there is some tool which will be in artadmin which is artifactory docs v2.0 (https://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF20/The+artadmin+Command+Line+Tool)
But in new v3.4.1 it was not there

And also where we can get the curl tool and which will be the best for administrating artifactory(UI or tool).

Re: Artifactory

Hi,

As you have noticed the ‘artadmin’ is only documented for Artifactory version 2.X and is now deprecated.

The choice of managing Artifactory through the UI or through the REST api is completely up to you based on your preferences.

However, previously you have mentioned that you are going to use a scripting language in order to communicate with Artifactory and this means using the REST API. Regarding your cURL question, it can be downloaded from here and the documentation/manual is available here.

I hope this helps,

Eran.

Re: Artifactory

Hello Eran,

If we use REST API (http://www.jfrog.com/confluence/displa/RTF/Artifactory+REST+API#ArtifactoryRESTAPI-FolderInfo) I saw one example about folder info in every thing  i have seen two common things they are
Usage: GET /api/build/{buildName}/{buildNumber}
Produces: application/vnd.org.jfrog.build.BuildInfo+json

In usage there is a command GET this we have to use in curl or normal command prompt if yes means can you please explain how to use (GET,POST,PUT)when i am trying this
https://mydomain.com:8443/artifactory/webapp/api/ext-release-local:Artifactory/Artifactory/Artifactory/Artifactory-Artifactory.pom i am getting error
{
  "errors" : [ {
    "status" : 404,
    "message" : "/artifactory/webapp/api/ext-release-local:Artifactory/Artifactory/Artifactory/Artifactory-Artifactory.pom"
  } ]

Re: Artifactory

Another very nice thing about Artifactory's backup is that the dump is a set of functioning Maven repositories.

We back up directly to a offsite versioned EMC Isilon mount (cifs.. Not NFS yet), which means even if our artifactory server was to burn to the ground tomorrow, we could set up a plain Apache httpd view of the backup folders and have our Maven repositories back online almost instantly.

It also means you are not locked in. The cost of this is that restoring takes a bit longer (in our case some hours to restore 200k artifacts), but at the advantage that you can restore on a newer Artifactory install with a different SQL and storage backend, should you choose to change that.
