Exporting artifacts from v1.2.5, then importing into v3.1.1.1.

sterickson

Can anyone tell me if this is possible? I’ve set up a new v3.1.1.1 to replace our current v1.2.5. We want to populate our new one with the artifacts in the old one. Given how far apart these two versions are, I’m assuming I cannot just export from the one and import into the other, without manipulating the data after exporting it.

Is my assumption correct? If so, is there a way to accomplish this?

Or just upgrade 1.2.5 to 2.0.8

https://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF20/Upgrading+Artifactory

then 2.0.8 to 2.6.6

http://www.jfrog.com/confluence/display/RTF2X/Upgrading+Artifactory

Then export and import

As far as I can see from the docs, there’s not way to convert the database directly from 1.2.5 to 3.1.x. Although it’s all open source, so if you really wanted to make one yourself, nothing’s stopping you.

The upgrade process Dave refers to is the correct way to upgrade.

Another option, if both instances are still running, would be to proxy each of the old instance's repositories from the new instance (create a remote repository on the new 3.1.1.1 instance that is directed to a local repository on the old 1.2.5 instance), this way, every time you resolve an artifact from the remote repository, it will be downloaded from the old instance and cached locally in the new instance, this way you make sure that stale artifacts (ones that are not in use) will not be transferred.
This process will require keeping the old instance running for some time, to make sure that all needed artifacts are transferred.

Hope this helps,
Itamar.
