Hash sum mismatch error when mirroring Ubuntu repositories

peterloron
We have an Artifactory Pro 4.1.3 server. I have created a remote repository in Artifactory to act as a local mirror/cache for the main Ubuntu repositories. I set a local Ubuntu 14.04 machine up to use the Artifactory repo as its source for apt operations. Last night, I was able to run "apt-get update" successfully against the new repo. This morning, I repeated the command, and received an error:

W: Failed to fetch https://artifact.company.com/artifactory/Ubuntu_Packages/dists/trusty-updates/universe/source/Sources  Hash Sum mismatch

Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi,

The "Hash Sum Mismatch" could be a result of referring to "Sources" in your Debian repository.
Since Artifactory is a Binary Repository Manager, the Debian repository is not designed for proxying 'Sources'.
In order to resolve this, there are two options:
One is to clean the cached 'Sources' before attempting to retrieve new ones.
The other option, which we believe is better, is that if you do not actually need the 'Sources', you can comment  out these lines in the sources.list file. This will result in apt-get not attempting to retrieve sources and in turn prevent the whole scenario.

HTH,
Itamar

This eliminates the Sources issue, but we see the same issue with Translation files:

W: Failed to fetch http://flardartifact01/artifactory/ubuntu-archive/dists/trusty-updates/main/i18n/Translation-en  Hash Sum mismatch

W: Failed to fetch http://flardartifact01/artifactory/ubuntu-archive/dists/trusty-updates/universe/i18n/Translation-en  Hash Sum mismatch

W: Failed to fetch http://flardartifact01/artifactory/ubuntu-security/dists/trusty-security/main/i18n/Translation-en  Hash Sum mismatch

E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Typically we go in and delete dists from each repo, but excluding deb-src is a great option too.

I wonder if this could be addressed by JFrog in their debian support? A couple of ideas are to offer per-path unused artifact cleanup settings, or offer a way to forbid certain file patterns from being cached.
