different serving artifact number in the home tab's banner after migration

matiasurbieta@gmail.com
Hi all, i'm migrating from artifactory 2.2.1 to 2.2.5 and , after migration process ends, it is presented a different number of serving artifacts. the home page. The difference is significant: 3k in the new artifactory against 12k in the old one. The migration process was done using export and import system functionality.
There is an thing about repository browser. Although overall artifact amount is different, each repository at repository  browsing tree (at "artifact" tab) shows same artifact number or similar +/- 2 if index files are present.
Additionally, there was no error in the import.export log file at artifactory home dir.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

The difference can occur after upgrade for numerous reasons:
Your old instance may have had some index references that weren't cleaned up correctly and are included in the counter. Another thing is that artifacts that are in the trash and are waiting for
 deletion.

But according to your double check in the browser and the log, it seems you are in good shape.

BTW why aren't you updating the the latest 2.3.1 version?

Hi,

The difference can occur after upgrade for numerous reasons:
Your old instance may have had some index references that weren't cleaned up correctly and are included in the counter.

How may i trigger a clean up process for fixing indexes  or  clean trash ?
My goal is to ensure that no artifacts were lost no matter if counter is not ok. or is it enough if no error is log in the backup import?

Another thing is that artifacts that are in the trash and are waiting for
 deletion.

How to clean it?

But according to your double check in the browser and the log, it seems you are in good shape.

BTW why aren't you updating the the latest 2.3.1 version?

Due to stability reason  we've chosen the latest stale version. do you suggest to migrate to 2.3.1 for a production server?

Regards

Re: different serving artifact number in the home tab's banner after migration

elig
Hi,

The count query on the repository level is counting only deployed artifacts on the repository, keeping in mind that the numbers are the same + the fact that
no error shows up in the log we can safely assume that the upgrade went well and no artifacts were lost.
FYI, If the the verbose log was not turned on during the import then the errors would be shown in the artifactory.log so double check both logs.

However, the different count you mentioned is pretty strange. So here is what I suggest you do:
1. Re-build the index on your 2.2.1 instance, Stop Artifactory, Delete the Index folder under ARTIFACTORY_HOME/data, Start Artifactory.
2. After the index is rebuild and Artifactory is up go to the Home page and look at the Artifacts count, refresh the page and see that there is no async deletion running in the back meaning the count is the same.

As for the recommended stable version, 2.3.1 is the latest stable version, you can track all issues on our JIRA.

Re: different serving artifact number in the home tab's banner after migration

In reply to this post by elig
I am facing the same problem. I am upgrading from version 2.2.2(derby) to 3.1.1.1(oracle). To check consistency in artifact count I just exported third-party-releases-local ( artifact count 378 , size 1.65 GB)
and then imported to 3.1.1.1 . After import I have found that artifact count for third-party-releases-local
is 495, but storage report shows that size of third-party-releases-local is 1.65 GB.

Can you please explain, why the difference is so big 378 to 495.

I tried with both Exclude Meta Data and with Meta Data

-Thanks

Re: different serving artifact number in the home tab's banner after migration

Ariel
Hi Tanmay,

In Artifactory version 3.x the maven-metadata.xml are being counted as files while in version 2.2.2 they aren’t, you can actually see them in the tree browser.
That is probably the difference that you see between the instances.

Hope that helps,
Ariel.
